Frequently Asked Questions

1. How does Dex protect my child’s privacy?

We take privacy seriously and have the ex-CISO of Google Devices (Cory Scott) on our advisory board. Dex is designed to be COPPA-compliant, does not store any identifiable information, and only processes images for immediate learning activities. Sensitive data by default has strict retention periods. Data is either processed locally on the device or securely encrypted if it’s sent for cloud-based features. You retain full control over any saved content (such as deletion), and no data is shared with third parties.

2. Is Dex safe for kids to use?

Absolutely. We’ve implemented extensive, rigid safety control (such as stop-list to block generative content) on all (even border-line) risky topics. As a result, Dex might decline a lot of topics/tasks that would have been okay with many of our Beta testers. Our policy puts safety first such that we’d rather Dex be less capable than being wrong/unsafe.

Regarding hardware: Dex is designed with child safety in mind, using durable, non-toxic materials and rounded edges. We’ve also ensured there are no small or detachable parts that pose choking hazards. Plus, the device includes parental controls so you can supervise and customize your child’s usage.

3. How does Dex compare to tablets or smartphones?

While tablets and smartphones can be versatile devices, Dex is purpose-built for interactive learning. Its camera-based learning approach encourages real-world exploration rather than passive screen time. This focused design reduces distractions like games or social media, helping your child learn more effectively.

4. What ages is Dex suitable for?

Dex is ideal for children aged 3-8, though older kids may also find it engaging. The content evolves with your child’s learning level, offering early-stage letter recognition for preschoolers and more advanced phonics or vocabulary building for elementary-age learners.

5. Does Dex need an internet connection to work?

The current version of Dex needs the Internet with a few offline modes available. Having said that, the LTE eSIM should be always on. You could also connect Dex to any Wifi using a co-pilot app.
